This course provides an overview of internal organ systems and the major stages of human development. The circulatory, lymphatic, digestive, respiratory, and urinary systems are examined. Reproduction, human development, and genetics are explored. Other topics include nutrition, metabolism, and the importance of water, electrolyte, and acid-base balance.
After completing this course, students will be able to:- Describe how the body transports, absorbs, and excretes gases, nutrients, wastes, hormones, and other vital substances.
- Explain reproduction and describe the various stages of human development.
- Identify the major parts of the body and explain the function of each.
- Describe the major functions of each organ system in the body.
- Explain how each organ system helps the body maintain homeostasis.
- Describe how the organ systems work together as an integrated whole.
- Name several diseases and disorders of the body and explain what causes them.
- Explain how diseases and disorders of the body are detected and treated.
- Describe the interactions between each of the organ systems in the body.
