Errata as of 03/29/07

Page 109, second bullet lists the five process groups. The paragraph below the five sub points starts with “comprise projects and project phases.” This should read “These process groups comprise projects and project phases.” It’s actually a continuation of the paragraph above the bullets so the paragraph above ending in process groups needs a colon just to clarify.

Page 110, first bullet point, second line says, “spurn decisions, conditions…” That should actually say “spur decision, conditions…”

Page 116, answer number 4 reads, “C, Initiating, planning, controlling, executing, and closing is the correct order of the processes presented.”  Should actually read, “C, Initiating, planning, executing, monitoring and controlling, and closing is the correct order of the process groups presented.”  

Page 126, Exam Watch, last sentence reads, “In addition, the Project Charter doesn’t launch the project – it authorizes the project manager.” This should actually read, “In addition, the Project Charter authorizes the project manager.”

Page 262, question answer 9 has the formula written as “(P+4M+O)/3” This should actually read, “(P+M+O)/3”

Page 296, question 12, answer B is currently “$58,000” this should actually be “$79,000”

Page 350, Figure 9-2, on the right-hand side of the figure it says, “Must exit first” this is a typo, but changes the whole meaning… should say, “Must exist first”

Page 412, question answer 21, second paragraph begins, “A, B, and C are all…” This should read, “A, B, and D are all…”

Page 533, Figure at bottom of page, section titled, 3-Point Estimate has a typo – the “4” as the denominator should be a “3”

Page 533, same figure at the bottom of the page, the section titled “six sigma values” has all of the sigma values as “1” These should actually read, in this order, “1, 2, 3, 6”

Page 78, question 10; answer B is correct; the explanation for answer D applies to answer B

Page 101, just below Managing the Project Team: "The project team completed" should be "The project team completes"

Page 104, second line below How Process Groups Interact: "atechnology" should be "a technology"

Page 125, three lines above bullit list on bottom of the page:

    "The project charter, which the PMBOK may call the project initiator" should be

    "The project sponsor, which the PMBOK may call the project initiator" 

Page 134, 2nd line: "than one is" should be "than zero is"

Page 134, 3rd line: "than one is" should be "than zero is"

Page 185, first line below "Using a Work Breakdown Structure Template:" "definition in a WBS template" should be "definition is a WBS template"

Page 189, 1st line: "input to the project plan" should be "input to the scope verification"

Page 211, Figure 6-1 should have been updated for changes in PMBOK 3rd edition, meaning "Activity Resource estimating"should be included.

Page 223, There is a little graph of effort versus duration. The graph is not in line with the statements in the text. The text is clear to me, but the graph is confusing. It shows that effort becomes less (even negative!) above a certain duration. That doesn't make sense.

Page 238, First line below Calculating Float in a PND:

     "Float, or slack is the amount of time a delayed task can delay the projects completion"

      This is an incorrect description, which might be improved as follows:

      "Float, or slack is related to the amount of time a delayed task can delay the projects completion"

Page 240,  8. "To officially calculate float, the LS is substracted from the ES and the LF is substracted from the EF." This should be "To officially calculate float, the ES is substracted from the LS or the EFis substracted from the LF"

Page 241, Figure 6-7; in the top part of the graph "Think PERT" should be "Think three point estimate"

Page 241, Figure 6-7; in the middle part of the graph the "3-5-8" on the right seems meaningless

Page 241, Figure 6-7; in the bottom part of the graph the "5" above box A should be above the top right corner of the box

Page 282, 3rd line from bottom: "The CPI for this project is thus 0.8" should be "The CPI for this project is thus 0.93"

Page 329, first line: "cost"should be "revenue"or perhaps "value"

Page 436, line 9: "There are, however, seven inputs" should be "There are, however, four inputs"

Page 445, 7th line from bottom "The probability times the impact equates to a negative $2000" should be "The probability times the impact equates to a negative $500" 

Page 451, 7th line from bottom "There are six outputs" should be "There are seven outputs" 

Page 476, 5th line from bottom "seller" should be "buyer"

Page 482, bottom line: "four"should be "seven"

Page 534, at the intersection of "Closing" and "Project Communications Management", it says "Complete administrative closure", whereas it should be empty.
