Risk taking. Preparation. Self-confidence. These are the daily principles that should be implemented in order to succeed in business. This is also the same philosophy that drives extreme athletes to their highest peaks of performance. So what does one concept have to do with the other? Motivational speaker Jim McCormick and author Maryann Karinch are both extreme athletes, and in their new book, BUSINESS LESSONS FROM THE EDGE: Learn How Extreme Athletes Use Intelligent Risk Taking to Succeed in Business (McGraw-Hill; August 2009) they teach readers how to capture the winning mindsets of athletic champions for extreme success in business and in life.

In the book, consumers will discover how world-class superstars such as "King of the Cowboys" Ty Murray and freestyle motocross star Carey Hart have turned their passions and skills into thriving entrepreneurial careers. By applying hard-won lessons of athletic competition to the hard-fought arenas of business, anyone can adopt the winning frame of mind of these adventurous athletes featured to be able to:
• Take intelligent risks
• Make lightning-fast decisions
• Prepare their mind and body for any challenge
• Leap over obstacles
• Roll with the punches
• Define their goals and go for the gold

In an easy-to-read format, the book provides a practical guide to assist business owners in building their company - whether it is a start-up or a multi-national firm. Written to inspire, BUSINESS LESSONS FROM THE EDGE is filled with action-packed stories, revealing interviews, training secrets, play-to-win game plans and other fast-track techniques all designed to help gain a winning edge over the competition in corporate America.

It also reveals how race-car driver Don Bell applied winning tactics to build a $4 billion company; how surfers Izzy and Coco Tihany made a big splash with their surf school and apparel company for women; how aerobatic pilot and paraglider Mike Angiulo piloted a high-flying, billion-dollar venture for Microsoft; and much more.

Whether running a company or rappelling down a cliff, this tome exposes what it takes to make the grade in today's fiercely competitive world.
