WHEN THINGS GET CRAZY WITH YOUR TEEN
The Why, The How, and What to Do NOW

Teens can often turn the world upside down without a moment's notice. Whether they are trying to get out of the house in an outfit that leaves too little to the imagination, coming home drunk from the sophomore semi-formal, or just refuse to clean up their rooms, teens have a knack for stirring things up that requires an immediate but thoughtful response!

When these things happen, parents need handy, actionable advice that they can access right away. They need to know exactly what to do, what not to do, what to say, and what not to say. And they need to know right now. What they need is WHEN THINGS GET CRAZY WITH YOUR TEEN: The Why, The How, and What to Do NOW (McGraw-Hill; January 2009; Hardcover: $22.95). The book is designed as an indispensable, easy-to-reference parenting guide. Bestselling author and licensed psychologist Michael Bradley draws upon his years of experience as an adolescent psychologist - and as a parent in the trenches himself - and tells other parents exactly how to act, what to say, and not to say in any situation, big and small.

Using crisp, believable, and engaging anecdotes and the sage advice that has made him a widely sought-after parenting expert, Bradley draws a vivid picture of what teens are going through, helps parents understand the situation from their eyes, and most importantly, gives parents the first tools they need to tackle these difficult moments together.

Dr. Bradley's advice for when a teen's room is a mess:

DO
• Remain calm and don't nag or yell
• Calmly ask for some effort, telling him that you are a tad neurotic about this
• Offer incentives for some (not perfect) neatness
• Offer to work with her once a week to help shovel out her room

DON'T
• Be sarcastic
• Clean his room for him
• Make fun of her room to her or others (especially to her friends)
• Go to war (where he feels that you really, personally dislike who he is because he is messy)
